Dear Familia,
Well this week has been pretty slow. That lightning storm
was fun -- NYC had over 1,000 strikes in a 15 minute period of time. We got in the church for our interviews with the president right
before it really started going. I accidentally grabbed the wrong planner this
week so my thoughts might be kind of scattered. But ya the temperature this
week was pretty nice for the most part. The day of the lightning storm when we
first left the apartment at eleven it was very hot, and then as we started
going about the day a few clouds started to come in, then a light drizzle came.
It took awhile for it to really cool off though. The humidity seems to hold the
temperature pretty stable. After that though it was nice for the rest of the
week.
So on Tuesday was deep clean day. As we were finishing up we
got a call saying that the AC repairmen were coming. That got us excited. Unfortunately
they had no idea what they were doing, and barely even spoke english (not
spanish either, some kind of southern asian). All they ended up doing was push
a few buttons, use our bathroom, and tell us they don't know what's wrong so
they will call some AC specialists. Wait, weren't you guys supposed to be the
AC specialists? Hmmm...
Anyway after that we called the East Elders to make sure
that they remembered that they were teaching English class. They told us that
the calendar we decided on in district meeting said it was our turn. The calendar
the rest of us wrote down said that it was their turn, as did the order we had
been following for earlier in the transfer, which we based the calendar we made
off of. All three of us had appointments scheduled which made it so that none
of us could cover for them. He ended up just pulling his 'I'm the district
leader so my calendar is final' card to make us go. We had to do an exchange with
the other elders, cancel an appointment, and do some other weird maneuverings
in order to make it work. Luckily we were blessed for our sacrifice and three
people gave us their information.
Wednesday was the day of the lightning storm. We had five
things scheduled that day which was amazing. One was our dinner appointment and
another was the interviews with the president but that's still three lessons
scheduled. Unfortunately all three of those lessons fell through. Thursday we
got a new investigator although I'm not sure what we are going to be able to do
with her. She is someone that has been taught many times in the past. Her
brother was an RM in the ward but he got deported a while ago. She wants to be
baptized but is not married. She has been taught everything plenty of times,
has been to church plenty of times. It felt more like a less-active lesson than
an investigator lesson. She used to want to get married but now she is not so
sure. There isn't much we can do. The rest of Thursday, Friday, Saturday and
Sunday were just fruitless lookups. We burned through that new list of names from
last week pretty quick. We have just kind of decided to go back to what Elder
Sanford and I were doing two transfers ago, just talk to everything that moves
all day, because we found 24 new investigators that transfer. Most of them
fizzled out pretty quickly but it was at least a lot of volume. Since then I
would be surprised if we had half that number of new investigators in the two
transfers I have been here. So guess we will see how it works.
Love you guys,
Elder Pearce
