Alright so first off Scott did get baptized yesterday so
that was great. The service went really well. He was really excited. He almost
slipped up this week but he stayed strong. We went over there on Thursday to
visit him and he said some of his close friends just moved to Florida and never
even went to say goodbye or even told him they were going, so he felt a little
betrayed and lonely and almost went and picked up some tobacco but his desire
to live the commandments overcame the stress he had and he pushed through. He
has progressed a lot even in these few weeks I have been working with him.
On Wednesday we didn't get an exact count for English class
but the advanced (we split it into two classes) had 17 and the beginners had in
the neighborhood of 30. So around 45 or 50 total. We had to go into the chapel
to do the spiritual thought at the end because none of the other rooms were big
enough. Saturday we dropped down to 14 people but Saturdays are usually slower
and it was right after the snow storm so we were satisfied with that.
But ya that snowstorm was a
little disappointing down here. We got about 8 inches. Of course
people were freaking out about that. It was kind of funny seeing the
differences in reactions between Hurricane Sandy and this last storm. With Sandy the news
reports were saying heavy rain, storm surge could be up the 16 ft., 70-100 mph
winds, nobody cared at all. Now a snowstorm is coming in, expected to get 1-2
ft of snow, and it's just the end of the world. I dunno, New York is a funny
place.
Anyway, to answer the questions, Lisa and Terrance are
getting interesting. They seem to be able to find an excuse every Sunday to not
come to church. We are also thinking that the time is approaching to move on
without Terrance. We had a lesson with them on Tuesday night and he isn't ready
to move yet. So we will see how that goes moving forward. And they have two
kids, an 8 year old son and a 6 year old daughter.
Transfers are next week so we will see what happens. Word on
the street is that there is only one person gone from our district. The odds on
favorites are either me or Elder Mitchell (who got here right after me). So we
will find out Saturday what's happening.
With that list of 800 people we are trying to figure out
exactly what to do with it now. We are finding that the people are pretty
firmly entrenched, active Catholics. Working in the Spanish program I thought that
was an oxymoron. So we are trying to find new ways to teach them and to kind of
ease them into the Restoration. So it is still a work in progress there.
Well I think that's about it for this week,
Love you all,
Elder Pearce
