Lots of Free Lemonade This Week

Alright so this week was pretty fun.

On Monday we went to the ward FHE, to which anywhere from 1-4 members usually show up. After the Spiritual talk we played Basta, which is pretty much Scattegories (Don't know how to spell that one). I took last but I think I did quite well for being the only non-native person to play entirely in Spanish.

Tuesday we had a lesson in the morning with Hno. Vital, the dry member, then we went to district meeting and set our 'Vision, Goals, Plans' for the next quarter. That is something that President has taught us that he says is one of the major reasons why he has been successful in life. We set our 'Vision' of what we want to accomplish. Then we set goals for what needs to happen for the vision to come about, then plans for what we need to do to accomplish each goal. Our district is really excited about our plans and hopefully we will start seeing more success come out of this soon. Afterwards we had our President's interviews and he said he liked our plans as well so that was good.

After that we all went down to the park and did a free lemonade stand to advertise English Class.

Wednesday, I can't remember if I told this already but every Wednesday we go down to a senior center to help serve lunch. It is really fun. Other than that it was a pretty normal day.

Thursday we went down to Coney Island in the morning and watched the Hot Dog contest. It was a lot of fun but I think that is a one time only thing. Then after that we went and did another lemonade stand in the park. It was about 50/50 hispanic/chinese this time, which was weird, the park is normally 70-80% hispanic. So we told the chino elders about that to see if they wanted to do a joint district activity there sometime (can you smell the foreshadowing). Other than that we taught English Class that night.

On Friday we had the ward talent show, which was a lot of fun. Our skit was the most popular event. At least the members think we are funny.  So hopefully that will make some small headway into getting more referrals.

On Saturday we went from activity to activity all day long. In the morning we went with some members of the ward to a corner where people wait for work and gave out free sandwiches and sodas. After that we went to the park and played soccer with some members plus some people at the park. Then we did another lemonade stand (we normally only do one a week, but classes have been waning a bit so we did three). So we hauled over our five gallon cooler of lemonade, set up the table, and fifteen minutes later are in awe as the lemonade was devoured by a swarm of chinos. So we make some quick phone calls to the chino elders, get another five gallon cooler and refill the first, come back with 10 more gallons of lemonade. Gone in a little over a half hour. About 95% chino this time. It was ridiculous.  The park has been taken over. Our activity worked great for the chino elders, not so much for us. We will have to rethink that activity going forward.

Sunday was a pretty normal Sunday. We had a good member visit after church and go a few appointments set up.

Today seems like it will be a calmer p-day, which will be nice because last night about five minutes before we got in bed the fuse for the bedroom and the study room decided to blow and we had no replacements, so we had to go without AC last night. I think I was able to tolerate it a little better than Elder Hernandez (a skill acquired last summer that I was hoping not to have to reuse). But we are still tired today.

Well that's about it,

Love you,
Elder Pearce
