Dear Familia,
Sorry that you have all had the
flu, but don't worry mom, the flu bug already rocked our district the week
before Christmas so we've been there, done that. I was actually the only
one that didn't get sick. Hna. Moncur has been sick ever since. I
think she has been puking once or twice every day since around New Years.
They have been running a lot of tests and they got close to sending her home
but she just got some kind of magical nausea pill from the doctors that is
making it a lot better.
But anyway, we got the
baptismal commit from Claudia (Feb 11) and she and Misael both came to church
so we will get a new date out of him this week. It was an interesting day
at church but all of the investigators enjoyed it (We also had Christian and
Vivianna there, who are the Park Slope ward's investigators and have been going
to that ward, but that is an English ward and they both don't speak English -- Park
Slope is pretty much a little Utah and is filled with RM's who have been
translating for them but they might just come down to Midwood from now on).
But anyway, in sacrament meeting all of the talks were about temples, and when
we sang "Families Can Be Together Forever" for the closing hymn,
Claudia started crying because she liked it so much. Then I sat with
Misael for gospel principles second hour. It was about the creation and
it went really well. I think most of the people there thought he was a
member because he was answering so many questions. He is so freakin
smart.
Then the last hour it was
combined priesthood and relief society and the lesson was about families so I
thought it was going to be awesome. Unfortunately the Rojas family has a
little feud going on with a member of the High Council that was there and every
time he said something the Rojas would start arguing and then other people
would throw in their opinions and it became a bit of a battle. Misael was
just laughing the whole time and I think Claudia was too because most people
could tell that the Rojas were just trying to make trouble (this isn't too bad
apparently). In the East New York branch (East New York is pretty much
the ghettoest place in NYC) they have to have two priesthood holders in relief
society because fist fights break out.
But afterwards we had a baptism
for the son in a family the ZL's have been teaching and Misael and Claudia both
stayed for that and it went really well. Then after that we took Claudia
to eat lunch at the Palaez's house, which every Sunday after church there are
usually about fifteen to twenty members there to eat lunch and she had a really
good time there. We've got her for sure. And Misael too if he keeps
coming to church.
Unfortunately it's looking like
we're going to have to drop Ana, she just isn't doing what she needs to do so
we will tell her when she figures it out give us a call and we will be right
there.
I think that's just about it
for this week,
Love you guys,
Elder Pearce
