Dear Familia,
So this week has been kind of slow. It has been hard work to
open a new area - just basically starting everything from scratch. We have been
doing a lot of knocking, which has a very low success rate here. It kind of
wears you down quick. Especially since none of the apartments are air
conditioned. But we are having fun and finding a little bit of success.
Saturday was our biggest day this week. We had appointments scheduled for every
hour except 2, when we ate lunch. Now out of all those lessons, we only got in
the door that we thought was least likely to open for us. So that was good.
Then we also got in with a recent convert who has been really hard to contact
lately and with the Nicaraguan lady we met last week. She hadn't read but
really started opening up at the end of the lesson which was good, and we were
able to clear up some of her concerns. Like she had heard that Mormons don't
eat any meat, so that was an easy one to clear up.
Then last night for our very last thing we were going to try
we went to look up a less-active part-member woman in the branch who Elder
Heaps, who has been here since January, has never met. We went up and knocked
the door, 'Hi, we're the new Elders here and we are going around to meet all
the members, could we come in and visit with you for a few minutes?'...
something to the that effect. Her response to that was 'Have you eaten yet?' I
love spanish culture. Anyway she is super cool, is still reading her scriptures
and everything, has a good testimony, she has just gotten a little lazy, and
that is the only reason she is not active. But her husband (they actually have
a ring, which is a very nice change) is not a member and if we can reactivate
her then he will be a high potential investigator, which is something I haven't
really had in a while so that will be nice.
So that's about all that has happened this week. A few more
crazy thunderstorms and whatnot, other than that a fairly uneventful week.
Love you guys,
Elder Pearce
