Transfer to Far Rockaway Queens

August 6, 2012

Dear Familia,

Alright so my computer is not working very well right now so sorry if this is kind of a weird email.

First off Happy Birthday Rachel and Megan! 23 and 25 Already. That means I'm getting old. wow.

So I made the long move from Jamaica to Far Rockaway, right on the other side of the bay. My new area is about a quarter of the size of my Jamaica area which was about half the size of my Midwood area, but we get a car here. The Rockaway peninsula is technically part of Queens but culturally it is somewhere in between Queens and Nassau. My companion and I are blinded in opening a new area which is fun. They just split it from two teaching pools to three. So the missionaries that used to work this area plus the whole peninsula are still here and we are living with them so it is a bit smoother transition.

My companion is none other the Elder Tucker Christian Denton from Mesa, Arizona whom I have lived with for two transfers in Jamaica. We get along really well and we already knew each other really well so that also made it a smooth transition. The Branch is Zebra which means both English and Spanish, which means we teach in both as well, which makes it interesting. We found two new investigators this week, one is from Nigeria and the other is Spanish. So it is really interesting. The Branch is about the same size as the Jamaica branch but it is both languages here. About 75% Spanish though. The Branch President is a Senior Missionary named Elder Greenburg. He is a super nice guy. He was telling us stories about his home ward in North Salt Lake, where both President Uchtdorf and Elder Bednar and at least two 70's were members. That's gotta be interesting.

We don't really have too many stories from this week as we're still just trying to work our way in. Yesterday all day we could tell there was a storm coming in. It was super humid and the wind just kept getting stronger and stronger all day. Around 6 we could see the black clouds getting into the city and around 8 we just watched from our car as a black wall just came in on top of us and then everything just broke loose within seconds. All night there was a lot of rain and a ton of lightning. The news was on at the laundry mat today and it looks like it did some damage in Connecticut. It is nice being in a car for these rain storms though. However we are starting to run out of music. So that could be another thing to add to the birthday list. More CD's.

I think that's about it for this week.

Love you all,
Elder Pearce
