Dear Familia,
So this has been both a good and bad week. On Tuesday we had
a really good day. We taught two lessons and found a new investigator. Unfortunately
he lives in the Bronx half the time so he will be hard to meet with and if he
is there on Sundays we will have to give him to the North mission. Wednesday
was also a good day. We found another new investigator. We knocked into her and
she let us in. We had a really good lesson but unfortunately she is from
Jamaica (island not queens) and was here visiting her sister and was returning
the next day. She tried to give us an excuse for not being able to read the
Book of Mormon saying that she was not going to have time, to which I countered
that it was a long flight home. That got everyone laughing pretty hard and she had
to agree with me.
We also had two recent convert/less active lessons, one of
which was with the lady that I talked about last week. Her husband still wasn't
there but we had a good lesson with her. Anyway I can't remember if it was
Wednesday or Tuesday but one of those was the day it rained super hard. We had
to park in the parking lot of a shopping center near our apartment and we
stepped out of the car into about 6 inches of water. It was a lot of rain. We
were driving down the highway before that and it was pretty wild.
Thursday was a pretty good day. We met with a less active in
the morning and we did a street sweep after lunch. We got 17 peoples info in an
hour and a half which was great. 4 of them were in our pool, 9 in our branch,
and 8 outside of the area. So that was pretty successful. And we had dinner
that night at the Beatty's house. They are the only white people in the branch
other than the missionaries so that was interesting getting to eat with people whom we could speak English with.
On Friday I gave a workshop in our district meeting about
patience. Everyone said it was pretty good. I didn't do much at all. I would
pretty much just have someone read a scripture then open it up for discussion
and everyone else would comment about it. It was nice.
Saturday was a very good day. It looks like Saturdays are
going to be our crazy days here. We started out having a really good lesson
with a woman named Pilar who came up and talked to us at the street sweep. We
had another lesson with Mariluz, the Nicaraguan we met our first week. Then at
our district meeting the members had invited a friend that we taught. Plus we got another recent convert/less active in there. On Sunday we went out to the car and I started thinking,
"well I'm not a great parker but I'm pretty sure I didn't park up on the
curb." We went over to look and we had been hit sometime during the night.
Jacked up our rear suspension. So we had to kick it old school and walk it out
all day.
Now today has been pretty stressful getting the car
situation worked out. They had to come and tow it then we had to get up to the
office to get our new car (which luckily a car had just opened up for us, Elder
Sterling's car in fact, he is on his plane ride home right now. He and his
companion both left halfway through the transfer for school). Now we are
driving a 2010 Corolla with 39,000 miles on it. A bit of a downgrade from
the 2012 Chevy Cruze with 3300 miles we were driving before. Oh well it runs.
So that's the story of the week.
Love you all,
Elder Pearce
