Alright so this week was pretty
fun. We did go down to Coney Island last Monday. And we did get some more
Nathan's hotdogs, though not from the original one. It was flooded out in the
hurricane it looks like, and they are still doing repairs. But we got the next
best, Nathans on the boardwalk. Then we went and played on the beach for a
while. Playing on the beach when you can't get in the water isn't exactly my
favorite activity but we had a pretty good time. So then we went to visit the
C family with a member, and, once again, they weren't there. We did a little
knocking with the member, but didn't get anything this time.
President is really pushing
hard to dedicate our pads and our areas every transfer so on Tuesday our
district went to Prospect Park to dedicate the area. Tuesday was about 75
degrees outside so unfortunately everyone and all their friends decided to go
to the park too. We ended up hiking around for about 45 minutes before we could
find a little secluded area to dedicate it. It was fun exploring around, it is
a super cool park, it just took a lot longer than any of us had planned.S
Then on Wednesday, we had our
interviews with President. We were scheduled to go in at 9:55, but for some
reason they got a little behind. We ended up waiting for a while at the church
before we could get in. The interviews are about 15 minutes per person and we
ended up leaving the church at about 1:15. So once again, we were pretty
behind. Then that night we had our appointment with the C family. We called
around but couldn't find any members to go with us so we had to go alone. It
was only Ernesto but we did that Atonement lesson like we had planned and he
opened up quite a bit to us. He really does want to know if these things are
true, but he really doesn't want to go to church until he knows it is true. So
this week we are going to have to go pretty heavy on that. It is getting close
to do or die time with them. If they don't come to church soon then we are
going to have to drop them.
Not too much exciting happened
on Wednesday or Thursday. On Friday our District Leader got a call from the
primary president asking if we could do some skits at the primary party so we
all got together to plan those. On Saturday we spent most of the afternoon
knocking and doing lookups and managed to set some appointments for this week
so that was more success than we have been getting. Then that evening we went
to the Primary Party. They told us it started at five so we showed up at around
4:45. About 6 o'clock it still hadn't started but one of the members walks up
and tells us that when the ambulance gets here send them downstairs. Ok we can
do that... wait what? Turns out to not be an emergency at all. Spanish people
really overreact to everything. I don't know if you have seen any of this dad
but Spanish people go to the ER for a cough. This time a kid tripped and cut
his head open. It was a decent cut but I would have thrown a bandaid on there
and called it good. So that got the party started. There ended up being more
leaders and parents there than kids but it was fun. They loved our skits.
Yesterday nobody showed up for
church. We were supposed to have an activity at the park at 4:30. We were going
to get a bunch of signs with just simple little phrases on them like 'Families
are Forever' or 'Jesus Loves You' and then try to talk to people about them.
The people with the signs didn't show up til 6 and the signs weren't made yet
so we just had to quickly write stuff on them and then all of the spanish had
to go for a dinner appointment but it seems like it went pretty well.
Now today is Elder Rodger's
Birthday so we threw him a surprise party this morning and we are going to ride
the Staten Island Ferry today to see the Statue of Liberty for him. Then we are
going over to the C family tonight so we will see how that goes.
Think thats about it,
Love you all,
Elder Pearce
